i get most of my freeware from terry cavanagh and weird fucking games
05/01 - apparently i had nothing to say about this game in my notes. i remember it being pretty cool though - guess i intended to come back and say things about it later.
man, this owns. rpgmaker sequel to gilgamesh i, the novel from 2100bc. it's got bump system in it, so i don't really need to say any more
unfortunately didn't run on my computer, but i'm recording it here anyway, because i want to remember that i tried to play a big the cat fangame. of all the characters to do Mario In Unreal Engine to you pick big....amazing...
feels like a direct predecessor to gilgamesh ii, in a way - the bump system and premade asset use feel like a test run allowing that game to build on it and add more specific crafting etc. i really liked this, though, there was something fundamentally Fun about...the act of trying to capture being a horse in a wide open plain, in rpgmaker, without engaging in traditional rpgmaker mechanics. it feels much larger scope than it is. of course, you then start to run over people and gain gold and meat from them, which you use to buy goggles from vending machines that let you see in first person, or eat meat to transform into that character. i'm sure there is something philosophical to say about the act of consuming flesh to embody said creature, but also this game allows you to eat boat and minecart meat, so i don't think it's worth me getting into right now. the most important item is called ??, and it transforms the entire map visually, drastically changing the tone. it's really fun to explore! my favourite part was where none of the items had any flavor text because you are a horse
